If I have to share one single tip with you guys about travelling, it would be to always check the weather during the season that you will be going. On this Asia trip, I made the mistake of not checking how the weather would be in Bali in January. I knew that Thailand would be sunny and hot in January and assumed that it would be similar in Bali – boy was I wrong! It turned out that January is actually rain season in Bali and we definitely experienced it in Ubud. Surrounded by jungle and rice fields, Ubud had more rain than other parts of Bali that we visited such as Jimbaran, Ungasan, Uluwatu, and Seminyak. Well, since the rain made it challenging to explore the nature in Ubud, we figured that a nice resort could save our trip and Visesa Ubud was the perfect candidate for that.
Located 10 min. of driving from the hectic Ubud center, Visesa offers a quiet and tremendously relaxing stay for its guests. We stayed there for two nights in a villa with a private pool. Because of the rain, we didn’t jump into the pool, which was a shame but we the nice view of Visesa’s own rice field made up for it. Even though the villas were placed next to each other, we didn’t hear the noice of our neighbors, the staff work, or of anything else besides the chirping of birds. Needless to say, it was like being out in the wild itself – the only difference is that we had a 5 star bed to sleep on haha.
Our villa had a terrace by the pool, which was a nice spot for having a drink whilst enjoying the pool and the rice field view. The bedroom itself was spacious and it was high to the ceiling. The bathroom may be unusual if you haven’t stayed in resorts in Bali before because it is an outdoor bathroom – although not completely open like some other resorts. However, the bathroom was big and clean and had everything that you need. When comes to judging a hotel or a resort, one crucial point is how comfortable the bed and pillows are. As we checked into our villa, I immediately napped for 1 hour and it would have been longer if not for my hunger. That should say enough about how comfortable that bed was!
For a luxury resort, I expected the service to be over the top and Visesa delivered this with the friendliness of its staff. No matter where we walked in the resort, we were greeted with smiles. Furthermore, help was always offered whenever we had questions and the staff made sure to attend to our needs. Breakfast was included and consisted of a big buffet at their restaurant next to the reception. A mix of Indonesian and international cuisines were offered in the morning to make us full before heading out.
There is something about resorts that give them the edge over hotels. I’m talking about the complete experience from when you get out of the taxi to check in until your luggage is put back into a taxi again after checking out. Upon checking in, we were greeted with welcome drinks and hot towels while the reception took care of the checking in. These welcome drinks have slowly become my favorite! It seems like every resort in Bali or Asia in general serve great welcome drinks while their cocktails selections are normally the usual – next time, I will order welcome drinks as a cocktail to enjoy by their pool. Anyway, as we finished our drinks, we were driven to our villa and given a short tour on the way. The villa was explained carefully, and luggage was delivered to us thereafter. The check in process at Visesa Ubud was effortless and comfortable as it could ever be!
Visesa also has a few restaurants of its own, so if you’re not in the mood to go out and just want to stick around the resort for meals, it should not be a problem. We tried their fine dining restaurant, Lumbung, which served Indonesian cuisine in a beautifully decorated location. Classy music surrounded the restaurant while we enjoy tasty Indonesian food for the first time and needless to say that we absolutely loved it!
If you’re ever in Ubud and are looking for a great resort to relax in, Visesa Ubud would be the perfect choice. More photos and information can be found here: www.visesaubud.com
